MU golfers struggle at Pinehurst

PINEHURST, N.C. -- Marshall is tied for 15th after two rounds in the Golf Pride Pinehurst Intercollegiate.

The Thundering Herd shot 321 Monday on Pinehurst Resort's famed No. 2 course (7,393 yards, par 70). Marshall shares 15th with Campbell.

Senior Nathan Kerns, first-day leader at 68 on the resort's No. 6 course, shot 82 Monday and is tied for 11th at 150. Other Herd scores are Brian Anania, 79 -- 162; Jeremy Rogers, 83 -- 163; Logan Lagodich, 77 -- 163; and Josh Holmes, 83 -- 167.

Old Dominion carded 313 Monday and shares the lead with Virginia Commonwealth at 599. The Rams carded 308. Ball State and North Carolina Greensboro are tied for third at 603.

Ball State's Tyler Merkel is first at 143 after posting 73 Monday. He's two shots up on Taylor Coalson of UNC Greensboro.

The tournament ends Tuesday.

WOMEN'S GOLF

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Heavy rains Sunday night and into Monday morning washed out the first round of the Lady Eagle Invitational at Hattiesburg Country Club.

Rain left the area just after lunch, forcing officials to delay play until Tuesday. The tournament is reduced to 18 holes. Groups will go off No. 1 and No. 10 on Tuesday.

Teams competing are Austin Peay, Belmont, Jackson State, ULM, Marshall, Memphis, New Orleans, South Alabama, Stephen F. Austin, Tennessee Tech, Texas-Pan American, Troy, UAB, West Florida, William Carey and the host Golden Eagles.
