Herd softball vs. UTEP
HUNTINGTON — Marshall’s Thundering Herd completes the softball regular season with a weekend series at Dot Hicks Field.
Marshall and UTEP play a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. and a Sunday single game at 11 a.m.
Herd players will wear pink jerseys Saturday. A silent auction for the jerseys will be conducted. The auction ends in the fifth inning of game two and the money will be donated to the Strike Out Cancer Foundation.
Regardless of how the games go, Marshall is locked into the Conference USA tournament, May 9-11, at the Collins Family Softball Complex at Tulsa. Eight of the nine conference teams play for an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.
Marshall (30-19, 11-9 C-USA) and East Carolina are tied for fourth place and will meet in the conference tournament.
UTEP (12-33, 1-19) won’t qualify for the league playoff. The Miners have lost 18 consecutive games and scored their only C-USA victory March 23 at Southern Miss.
Kaelynn Greene leads Marshall with a .349 batting average and 25 runs scored while holding a 15-game reach-base streak.
Alysia Hively leads Marshall with nine home runs.
Herd pitcher Andi Williamson has a 27-15 record and 2.09 ERA. The senior leads C-USA and is second in the nation with 312 strikeouts.
UTEP’s lineup is led by Erika Arcuri with a .346 batting average. Alanna Leasau has eight home runs and 39 RBIs.
The Miners have used two pitchers regularly — Danielle Pearson (6-13, 3.86) and Colleen Hohman (4-10, 5.96).
