Chesapeake golfers 8th in state tourney
COLUMBUS -- Chesapeake is in eighth place after the first round in the Ohio Division II State Golf Championship being played on the par-71 Scarlet Course at Ohio State.
The Panthers shot 354 Friday. Senior Nick Duffield led the way with a 77 and is just two shots out of the lead. Other scores were Shane Stevens, 98; Drew Oxley, 93; Eric Sias, 90; and Seth Waggoner, 94.
Dayton Oakwood shot 320 to lead the team standings by 17 shots over Kettering Archbishop Alter.
Eaton's Cameron Willis, one of 12 individual qualifiers, carded a 75 to lead the field. Duffield and Dayton Oakwood's Tripp French share second at 77. Blake Prince of East Liverpool is fourth at 78. Rob Canady of Gallia Academy shot 84.
Division II wraps up Saturday. The start has been delayed until 10 a.m.
In Division III, Ashland Crestview shot 323 at par-72 North Star Resort in Sunbury to lead the field. Columbus Wellington is second at 326 and Columbus Academy third at 327.
Grove City Christian's Cameron Michalak and Andrew Bieber of Gates Mills Gilmour Academy each fired 73 to share the top spot. Bryce Lutz of Ashland Crestview posted 75 to hold third. Coal Grove's Brent Morgan, an individual qualifier, shot 84.
Division III tournament play wraps up Saturday.
