DANIELS, W.Va. -- Sam O'Dell of Hurricane went undefeated over the weekend to help the Virginias squad defeat its Carolinas counterparts, 27-21, in the 67th Captain's Putter Matches played on the Cobb Course and Stonehaven Course at The Resort at Glade Springs.

The Virginias team won Saturday's singles matches, 141/2-91/2 to retain the Captain's Putter Trophy and notch its first repeat win since 2003-2004.

O'Dell beat Scott Harvey (Greensboro, N.C.), 4 and 3. Pat Carter of Huntington and Bruce Wetherholt of Barboursville each halved their matches.

On Friday, Carter and O'Dell won their foursomes match and four-ball match by 2-and-1 margins. Other West Virginians on the Virginias roster were Winston Canada of Oak Hill in the regular division and Steve Fox of Huntington, Harold Payne of Hurricane and Scott Bibbee of Vienna in the senior division. Carolinas now leads the all-time series, 47-19-1. The matches annually rotate between sites in the Virginias and Carolinas. This was the first time the matches had been held in West Virginia since 1976 when Glade Springs again served as host.
