Power splits two games
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The West Virginia Power split a South Atlantic League baseball doubleheader with the Lexington Legends Friday, falling 3-2 in the resumption of Thursday's rain-suspended game before winning a seven-inning nightcap, 6-4.
In the bottom of the ninth of the opener, Lexington's Chad Johnson singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Alfredo Escalara singled inside the third base bag to score Johnson and give the Legends the walk-off victory.
Will Kendall (0-1) took the loss for the Power while Cesar Ogando (1-0) garnered the win.
In the regularly scheduled game, West Virginia jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first inning as Harold Ramirez doubled and scored on a two-base hit from Danny Collins. With two outs, Erich Weiss walked. Wyatt Mathisen singled in Collins before Edwin Espinal's two-run double capped the inning.
The Power added a pair in the top of the second inning to build a 6-0 edge.
Clairo Perez (1-0) earned the victory in relief of Buddy Borden.
The Power and Legends play the third game of this opening series at 4:05 p.m. Saturday Cody Dickson and Matt Tenuta are the scheduled starters for West Virginia and Lexington, respectively.
