MSAC honors Shelton as soccer player of year

HUNTINGTON -- Preston Shelton from Winfield was selected as the Mountain State Athletic Conference boys player of the year.

Mike Foster from Winfield was named as the coach of the year.

All-MSAC first team selections included Carter Sutton of Cabell Midland and Chris Holland and Jacob Maddox of Spring Valley along with Hurricane players Ian Miles, Evan Miles, Trevor Cunningham, and Alex White.

Huntington High second team selections were Nathan DeMoss and Jameson McCafthy.

Spring Valley placed Jared Messer on the second team while Hurricane had Felipe Thompson, Rodrigo Bevaqua and Huntington High had Evan Vega. Winfield had Noah Laliberty and Steven Taylor.

Boys all-conference special mention players included Max Simpson and Matthew Miller from Huntington High; Nate Barker and Brodie Wallace of Cabell Midland; Chris Railey and Will Howerton of Spring Valley; and Jacob Foster from Winfield.

The boys honorable mention players included Kyle Miller from Huntington High, Noah Wilds from Cabell Midland, Austin Jones of Spring Valley, Austin Conley from Hurricane and Jonah Sneeringer of Winfield.

Girls player of the year recognition went to Michelle Newhouse of Capital while Michelle Dye of Princeton was the coach of the year.

Players on the girls first team included Ericka Budd, Summer Wheatley, Kelsie Burns and Braddick Price from Huntington High; Amy Stewart from Spring Valley; Brittany Minor, Audrey Barber and Taylor Morton of Hurricane; and Emily Cole, Jayne Lawman, Braiden Maddox and Mackenzie Arthur from Winfield.

Becca Spencer and Emily Rhodes from Spring Valley were on the girls all-conference second team choice along with Callie McClanahan and Lauren London of Hurricane.

Girls receiving special honorable mention included Sydney Jacobson of Huntington High, Ashton McGown of Spring Valley and Faith Burchett of Winfield.

Honorable mention selections for the girls included Leah Levy from Huntington High, Madison Rowe from Cabell Midland, Hannah Smith from Spring Valley, Allison Clay of Hurricane and Kaylee Cross from Winfield.
