HUNTINGTON -- One of the teams that won a US Youth Soccer Region I title this summer in Barboursville went on to capture a national championship.

Four other Region I winners were national runners-up.

Baltimore Bays Chelsea from Maryland, the U-15 Boys regional champion, knocked off Albion White out of the California-South association, 2-1, in overtime at the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series last weekend in Overland Park, Kan.

Romillio Hernandez and Christian Porras scored the goals.

The Bays soccer club has claimed at least one national title every year since 2005.

Other national championship results:

Sting 95 from the Texas-North association beat Region I champion Scorpions Elite of Massachusetts, 1-0, in the U-15 Girls national finals.

Solar 94 Red from Texas-North edged McLean MPS Strikers from Virginia and Region I, 1-0, for the U-16 Girls championship.

So Cal Blues Dodge from California-South downed Region I champion Syosset Sting 92 from New York-East in the U-17 Girls finals, 1-0.

Columbus Crew Juniors from the Ohio-South association claimed a 1-0 win over Region I team FC Delco Hammerheads from Pennsylvania-East in the U-19 Boys finals.

The Columbus Crew triumph was the first national championship for a Major League Soccer youth academy team.
