Jules places 12th in national heptathlon
DES MOINES, Iowa -- Vanessa Jules from Marshall University dropped three places Friday to 12th in the final women's heptathlon standings at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Sharon Day of Los Angeles was the winner with 6,550 points earned in seven events. Day was also the 2011 champion. She finished second at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials and competed in the London Games.
Day had the top performances in the high jump (6-feet, 23/4 inches), shot put (45-feet, 21/4 inches) and javelin (155-feet, 5 inches).
Kansas State assistant coach Bettie Wade finished second with 6,018 points and Mississippi State athlete Erica Bougard took third place with 5,990 points.
Jules, a Marshall senior from Silver Spring, Md., scored 5,636 points.

100-meter hurdles: 13.44 seconds.
High jump: 5-feet, 83/4 inches.
Shot put: 34-feet, 101/4 inches.
200-meter run: 24.26 seconds.
Long jump: 19-feet, 51/4 inches.
Javelin: 106-feet, 1 inch.
800-meter run: 2:22.55.
