Hartley hammers Ironton
IRONTON — Bishop Hartley showed why it’s considered one of the best teams in Ohio regardless of classification on Friday night, walking into Tanks Memorial Stadium and pounding Ironton 62-6 on Senior Night.
It was the second-straight lopsided home loss for the Fighting Tigers, who fell to 5-3 on the season.
After Bishop Hartley jumped out to a 14-0 lead, Ironton’s Patrick Lewis caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from Tristan Cox to cut the lead to 14-6.
That would be the lone score of the night for the Fighting Tigers, though, as the Hawks used a wealth of skill kids to run away with the victory.
Bishop Hartley (8-0) scored 35 points in the second quarter, including an 85-yard interception return for a score on the final play of the first half to take a 49-6 lead into the locker room before cruising to the victory.
Since starting the season 5-0, Ironton has now given up 148 points in its last three games — all losses.
The Fighting Tigers’ regular season ends next week with a trip to Oak Hill.
