HHS' Gatrell wins at Gazette Relays
CHARLESTON -- Ryan Gatrell from Huntington High was the Class AAA boys winner in the 110 hurdles Saturday in the 78th Gazette Relays at Laidley Field. Gatrell's winning time was 15.15 seconds.
Jacob Kilgore of Spring Valley won the 800 (2:01.59) and Winfield won the 4x200 relay. Relay runners for the Generals were T.C. Kester, Colton Griffith, John Hathaway and Bryce Humphreys with a time of 1:33.68.
Winfield's girls had wins from Barkley Castro in the 800 (2:19.55) and Allie Perry in the pole vault (10-feet, 4 inches).
Jefferson raced to the Class AAA boys team title with 134 points followed by Point Pleasant (55), WInfield (54), Greenbrier East (44) and Huntington High (42). Gahanna Lincoln of Ohio took the AAA girls championship with 167 points. Runner-up Winfield (96) was followed by Hurricane (66).
Christian Buckley from Poca was a double winner in Class AA boys. Buckley was first in the discus (156-3) and shot put (46-6).
Bridgeport won the Class AA boys and girls team titles.
Dylan Rich led Buffalo with two wins in the Class A boys meet. Rich won the 800 with a meet record time of 1:58.96 and the 1600 while setting another meet record of 4:19.84.
Ironton sprinter Jacob Long won the Class A boys 100 with a time of 11.73. The Fighting Tigers also had a victory in the 4x100 relay from Dion Brown, Long, Josh Glover and Drew Wells with a time of 44.51.
Doddridge County was the team winner in Class A boys and girls.
