September 12, 2009 @ 12:00 AM

HURRICANE, W.Va. -- Spring Valley capitalized on Hurricane miscues Friday night and rolled to a 31-7 football victory at Redskin Stadium.

Hurricane turned the football over on four consecutive third-quarter possessions. Spring Valley, which led 10-7 at halftime, broke the game open by converting two of the turnovers into scores.

Zach Wellman cashed in the first turnover with a 1-yard TD carry. Anthony Evans went 5 yards for the second score and a 24-7 lead at 8:06 of the third quarter.

Eric Slayton's interception of Hurricane backup quarterback Luke Briggs stopped the next Redskins' possession. Chase Lindsey picked off a Briggs pass at the end of the third period.

Spring Valley (3-0) added to its lead following the fourth turnover.

George Brody's punt backed Hurricane up inside its own 5-yard line. Hurricane's attempted punt was blocked by Josh Copley and Joel Price recovered in the end zone for another touchdown and a 31-7 lead with 5:33 remaining in the game.

Hurricane threw another interception on its next possession.

Spring Valley took the football on its first drive of the game down the field for a score.

D.J. Bays had a nice run to get the Timberwolves started and Wellman carried the ball into Redskins' territory. Slayton advanced the ball to the 30.

Dane Niday broke a run toward the end zone, fumbled inside the 10-yard line and teammate Jerrod Robertson recovered in the end zone for a touchdown. Brody kicked the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

Hurricane (1-2) answered late in the first quarter after converting on a fourth-down play. Cam Cooper hauled in a 42-yard TD pass from Tyler Pate and Aaron Browne's placement tied the game, 7-7.

Brody, who had a 53-yard field goal attempt bounce off the crossbar in the first quarter, recovered to connect from 47 yards at 10:08 of the second quarter and the Timberwolves had a 10-7 lead.

Spring Valley lost a fumble and Hurricane's Jacob Engal intercepted a Slayton pass before halftime.
