C-USA coaches make soccer picks

IRVING, Texas -- Defending champion Tulsa was picked by Conference USA coaches to repeat.

Florida International junior forward Juan Guerra and Kentucky junior defender Barry Rice were selected as the preseason C-USA offensive and defensive players respectively.

Tulsa returns six starting players from an NCAA tournament team.

Eric DeFreitas, Jose Parada, and Chris Clements from the Golden Hurricane were named as members of the preseason all-league team.

SMU was picked second in the coaches' preseason vote. The Mustangs were also a 2007 NCAA tournament team.

South Carolina was chosen third by the coaches and Kentucky was fourth. Memphis was fifth in the poll.

The top eight teams at the conclusion of the regular season earn spots in the conference tournament.
