Cabell Midland wins Capital Classic by 2
CLENDENIN -- Cabell Midland won the Capital City Classic title Tuesday, the fourth stop on the five-event Top-Flite High School Tournament Series.
Tyler Clay and Brooke Bellomy each shot 72 on the par-69 Sandy Brae Course to lead the Knights to a 217 total. Korey Goad followed with 73 and Tyler Blankenship shot 74. Format is the best three of four scores count.
Hurricane, defending West Virginia Class AAA champion, was second with 221. The Redskins had the medalist as Aaron Barna posted a 69. Brian Anania added a 75 and Sam Booth a 77.
George Washington was third with 227. Carl Roncaglione and Elizabeth Frederick each shot 75 to lead the Patriots.
Many of the team who competed Tuesday will play in the Huntington Invitational on Saturday at Esquire Country Club.
Rick Carter has ace on No. 4 at Twin Silos
LAVALETTE -- Rick Carter of Huntington made a hole-in-one Tuesday on the fourth hole at Twin Silos at Lavalette. He used a 7-iron on the 137-yard par 3. Chuck Douglas, Steve Ferrell and Sherman Burlingame witnesses the ace.
