Seven being inducted into MU Hall of Fame
HUNTINGTON -- It's Hall of Fame week at Marshall University.
Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame inductions are Friday during the annual banquet in Memorial Student Center. The 7 p.m. banquet is in the Don Morris Room. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at the Cam Henderson Center box office.
Hall of Fame inductees are also being introduced Saturday at the Illinois State vs. Marshall football game.
The 25th anniversary Hall of Fame class includes:
Jim Donnan
Marshall football head coach from 1990 to 1995 with a 64-21 record and .753 winning percentage. Guided the Thundering Herd to the NCAA Division I-AA championship in 1992. Averaged 10.6 victories per season.
Donnan is an ESPN college football analyst. He will be in the booth Saturday working for WOWK-TV.
Phil Ratliff
All-American lineman for Marshall from 1989 to 1992. Captain of the 1992 I-AA national championship team. Now working as an assistant coach working with Thundering Herd tight ends and tackles.
Won the Jacobs Blocking Award in 1992 as the Southern Conference's best offensive lineman.
J.R. VanHoose
Men's basketball player from 1998 to 2002 who ranks second in school history with 1,086 rebounds and fifth with 1,803 points.
Named to All Mid-American Conference teams in 2000, 2001 and 2002. MAC all-freshman team member in 1999.
Byron Carmichael
Men's soccer player from 1999 to 2002 who was named as the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year in 2000 and 2002.
Holds the Marshall career record with 58 goals.
Anna Mitina
Member of Thundering Herd women's tennis teams from 1999 to 2002. Mitina was a four-time selection on All Mid-American Conference teams. She had 195 career match wins.
She led Marshall to the MAC title and its first NCAA tournament berth in 2002.
Tom Kies
Marshall men's golf team member from 1985 to 1989. Was the 1986 Southern Conference champion and a three-time all-conference player.
Received All-American honors in 1988.
Bill Harris
Competed in football, baseball and wrestling from 1952 to 1956. Varsity letterman three times in football and wrestling and once in baseball.
Was an All Mid-American Conference honorable mention football player in 1954 and 1955.
