Barboursville girls beat Tennessee, 8-3
WARNER ROBINS, Ga. -- Barboursville moved one step closer to advancing in the Little League Softball age 11-12 Southeastern Regional after an 8-3 win over Daniel Boone (Tenn.) during pool play Friday at Little League Southeast Park.
Barboursville trailed 3-1 following an error in the bottom of the third that allowed two Tennessee runners to score.
However, the West Virginia state champions went on to score the game's final seven runs en route to the victory.
Barboursville pounded out 13 hits in the contest, including seven doubles.
With the bases loaded in the top of the fifth inning, Rylee Kurlin hit a line drive that got past the Tennessee right fielder and cleared the bases to give Barboursville a 4-3 lead. Kurlin ended the contest 3-for-4 with a double.
Barboursville then put the game out of reach in the top of the sixth inning by scoring four runs. Jenna Marsh had the big hit in the frame with a two-run double. She later scored on a single before Abbie Tolbert knocked in the game's final run for a five-run cushion.
Tolbert finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs for Barboursville (1-1) while Marsh went 2-for-4 with two doubles while allowing just three hits to pick up the win in the pitching circle. Karlee Alderman also went 2-for-3 with a double.
Barboursville takes on Bridgewater (Va.) at 4 p.m., Saturday, in the final day of pool play. The Virginia state champions are 0-2.
A win would put Barboursville in solid position to advance as one of four teams in the single-elimination round that begins Sunday.
