Tolsia girls earn way back to state
GLENHAYES, W.Va -- Tolsia's girls basketball team is headed back to the state tournament after a 64-54 win over Clay County in the Class AA, Region IV final at Tolsia High School on Thursday night.
Karli Purvis went 9-for-9 from the field and finished with 21 points to lead the Rebels while Katie Lahoda added 16 points and nine rebounds.
Tolsia jumped out to a 34-19 lead at the half thanks in part to a 12-0 run late in the first quarter by the Rebels.
However, Clay County's Sierra Carver scored on a layup with 2:50 left in the third quarter to cut the lead to 40-33.
That's as close as the Panthers would get, however, as an 8-2 run pushed the lead back to double-digits.
Carver finished with a game-high 30 points for Clay County, who ended its season at 12-11. Jacee Markle added 11 points for the Panthers in the loss.
Kara Pollinger notched 12 points, eight assists and four steals in the win for Tolsia (19-6), who will await the seeding announcement from the WVSSAC. The Rebels are currently ranked No. 5 in Class AA.
