Fairland girls capture OVC Cross Country
PROCTORVILLE -- Fairland's girls had a perfect finish Tuesday to win the Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Championships held on the Fairland course.
Taylor Perry started the parade of Dragons across the finish line, winning in 20:11. Then came Megan Ashton, Shanan Ashton, Sydney Pettit and Jessica Price to give Fairland 15 points. The Dragons also had runners finish in positions six through 10.
Fairland's boys nearly matched that effort with the top three runners and No. 5 runner to win with 18 points. Raine Wireman paced the Dragons in 16:39. Rock Hill's Aaron Dalton halted the charge by taking fourth in 17:57.
Fairland Middle School sweeps in cross country
PROCTORVILLE -- Fairland Middle School scored a sweep Tuesday in the Ohio Valley Conference Middle School Cross Country Championships held on Fairland's course.
In the boys race, the Dragons scored a sweep to win with 15 points. Hunter Ashton got the line first in the 3200 in 11:52. Coal Grove was second with 50.
In the girls race, the Dragons had the top two finishers and five in the top 10 to lead with 24 points. River Valley's Bailey Ward won in 12:51.
