Herd gets third in tourney

HEBRON, Ky. -- Marshall moved up to Tuesday finish third in the Bearcat Invitational men's golf tournament at the par-72 Traditions Golf Club.

Austin Peay won the 15 team, 54-hole event with a 3-over-par 867, followed by Belmont at 873 and Marshall at 878.

Anthony Bradley from Austin Peay was the medalist with rounds of 70, 71 and 72 for a 3-under score of 213. Corey Richmond from Northern Kentucky was second at 67-73-73 -- 213.

Nathan Kerns from Marshall tied for third place at 74-69-71 -- 214.

Marshall also had Brian Anania (75-75=70 -- 218), Jeremy Rogers (77-74-73 -- 224), Logan Lagodich (72-75-83 -- 230) and Josh Holmes (83-74-76 -- 233).

WOMEN'S GOLF

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Marshall women's golf placed 17th in the 19-team Lady Pirate Invitational that was shortened to 18 holes because of rain.

The first round was played Monday at the par-72 Greenville Country Club. Rounds two and three were washed out.

Maryland was the winner with a score of 7-over-par 295. Marshall shot 322.

Juliet Vongphoumy of Maryland was the individual winner with a 4-under 68.

Marshall players were Korakot Simsiriwong (77), Rachel Thompson (79), Samantha DiDomenico (83), Caitlyn Morrone (83) and Maria Battaglia (84).
