Kerns leading after 2nd round at PUMA
FT. MYERS, Fla. -- Marshall's Nathan Kerns held the individual lead Sunday after two rounds in the Cobra-PUMA Invitational at the par-72 Miromar Lakes Golf Course.
The senior from Ironton shot 68 in the morning and 67 in a light rain in the afternoon Sunday for a 9-under 135 and one-shot edge over Edward Figueroa of Florida Gulf Coast. Jack Hernandez of Florida Gulf Coast is third with 137.
In the first tournament of the season, Kerns finished runner-up in the Marshall Invitational at Guyan Golf and Country Club.
The Thundering Herd is seventh overall with a 583. Other Herd scores are Tas Sipowski (73-76 -- 149), Brian Anania (74-76 -- 150), Jeremy Rogers (78-75 -- 153) and Logan Lagodich (74-79 -- 153).
Florida Gulf Coast leads with at 18-under 558.
Penn State is second with 570 followed by Bethune-Cookman with 572 and Florida Atlantic and Wofford each with 578.
Host Xavier is eighth in the 15-team field with 584. Xavier stages this event each fall.
Final-round action is Monday.
