Greenbrier East beats Huntington in volleyball

LEWISBURG, W.Va. -- Huntington High finished runner-up to host Greenbrier East in its volleyball tournament Saturday.

The Highlanders beat Summers County and Greenbrier West and lost to the host Spartans in pool play.

Huntington High beat Nicholas County in the quarterfinal and Woodrow Wilson in the semifinals to get a shot at Greenbrier East in the title match. The Spartans won that one 25-17, 25-23.

Huntington High's Ali Musick, Marah Motley and Domino Gibson made the All-Tournament Team.

Jim Mayo Football Reunion is Oct. 10

PROCTORVILLE -- The Jim Mayo Football Reunion will be held Oct. 10 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Fairland Middle School. The reunion is for anyone who played for Mayo at Fairland High School or South Point High School. Mayo coached at Fairland from 1965 through 1978 and at South Point from 1983-1986.

The reunion also is open to any coaches, managers and community members who worked on the stadium, locker rooms or concession stands. Attendees are encouraged to bring family photos to the cookout.
