Carter tied for ninth in Sunnehanna Amateur
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- Pat Carter of Huntington is tied for ninth place at the midway point in the 60th Sunnehanna Amateur being played on the par-70 Sunnehanna Country Club.
Carter posted a 3-under 67 Friday for a 140 total. He shares ninth with Carlos Ortiz of Mexico, Justin Kelley of Ogden, Utah; and Rick Lamb of South Bend, Ind.
Steve Ihm, who plays for Iowa, and Tom Lovelady, who plays for Alabama, share the lead at 137. Ihm shot 71 in round two and Lovelady a 67. Stewart Jolly, who plays for LSU, is third at 138.
Carter, winner of 13 West Virginia Amateur titles, is paired with Lamb and Kelley for Saturday's third round. This is Carter's final tuneup for the West Virginia Open scheduled Wednesday through Friday at Parkersburg Country Club.
Flooding washes out junior match play
SISSONVILLE, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Junior Match Play Championship scheduled this weekend at Edgewood Country Club has been postponed due to immense flooding at the championship site. The West Virginia Golf Association said the event will be rescheduled at a date to be determined later.
Fite falls one pin short of another 300 game
HUNTINGTON -- Brian Fite rolled a 299 game Thursday night in the Adult-Child League at Colonial Lanes. It came in game two and Fite left a solid-10 on his final shot. The 299 is the 23rd of Fite's career. He finished with a 732 series.
