MU Marathon signups busy
HUNTINGTON -- Early entries are indicating a record turnout Nov. 2 for the Marshall University Marathon.
Race director Tom Dannals said more than 400 runners and walkers have signed up, which is 80 more than the same time last year.
"Last year 800 people were on the starting line for the various events," Dannals said. "We're hoping to hit 1,000 people this year. We're still looking for runners, walkers and volunteers.
"This event is all about exercise, and we hope everyone will participate."
The event is promoted by HealthyHuntington.org as a way to promote healthy living in the Tri-State. Events include a 26.2-mile marathon, half-marathon for runners or walkers, half-marathon relay and 5-mile walk.
No major changes were made to the USA Track and FIeld certified course that begins on Third Avenue beside Cam Henderson Center and runs through downtown past Pullman Square next to the Ohio River and through Ritter Park among other places.
Participants will end the race by running through the Marshall campus on their way to a goal-line finish on the turf in Joan C. Edwards Stadium.
Former Marshall and NFL star Mike Bartrum will be a special guest, tossing footballs to the athletes as they near the finish line.
Register online at www.active.com through Oct. 25.
The only in-person registration will take place at the race expo/packet pickup Nov. 1 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Huntington Physical Therapy, 2240 5th Ave.
