Huntington athletes Angle, Rutherford make nationals
GENEVA, Ohio -- Kaleb Angle of Huntington placed first in the age 9-10 Boys long jump at the USA Track and Field Region 5 Junior Olympic meet.
Angle won with a jump off 11-feet, 9.5 inches.
Savannah Rutherford from Huntington was second in the age 17-18 Girls 500-meter run with a time of 5 minutes, 43.77 seconds.
Angle and Rutherford, representing the Tri-State Athletic Club, will advance to the USATF National Junior Olympic meet July 26-31, in Wichita, Kan.
The top five finishers in each age group qualified for the nationals.
Noah Castro of Teays Valley, running for the Capital City Striders in age 9-10 Boys, was first in the 1500-meter run (5:19.17); fourth in the 400-meter run (1:14.20); and second in the 800-meter run (2:36.51).
Zane Perry of Hurricane and the Capital City Striders, was fifth in the age 9-10 Boys long jump (9-11).
Andrew White from Hurricane, Capital City Striders, in age 17-18 Boys was first in the discus (155-4); first in the shot put (53-0.75); and second in the hammer throw (96-8).
Barkley Castro from Teays Valley, Capital City Striders, competing in age 15-16 Boys was third in the 800-meter run (2:31.65).
Christian Buckley of Poca and the Capital City Striders in age 13-14 Boys was first in the discus (160-5) and first in the shot put (43-11.25).
