Buckley sets record for boys discuss
HUNTINGTON -- Christian Buckley from Poca, .W.Va., and the Capital City Striders track and field club set a Russell Blount East Coast Invitational record in the age 13-14 boys discus.
Buckley had a winning toss of 164-feet, 7 inches at the meet at Duke University in Durham, N.C. He also finished third in the shot put at 44-3.5.
Other members of the Striders bringing home gold medals included Lauren London of Hurricane in the age 13-14 pole vault (9-0) and Andrew White of Hurricane in the age 17-18 discus (160-5).
White also placed third in the shot put (51-0.25).
Noah Castro from Winfield was fifth in the age 9-10 boys 1500-meter run (5:19.94) and sixth in the 800-meter run (2:39.72).
Cathy Woods from Hurricane placed seventh in the age 11-12 girls mini-javelin (54-1).
Barkley Castro of Winfield took eighth place in the age 15-16 girls 800-meter run (2:33.21).
Quinten Buckley of Poca was fourth in the age 17-18 boys discus (137-11).
