HUNTINGTON -- Hailey Lunsford from Genoa in Wayne County was one of five West Virginia track and field qualifiers for the Hershey North American Final Meet.

The meet is Saturday at Milton Hershey School in Hershey, Pa. Athletes age 9 to 14 were selected for the nationals based on state meet results.

Lunsford, 13, is a Wayne Middle School student competing in the 800-meter run for Girls Age 13-14.

She won the state meet June 11 at Cabell Midland High School with a time of 2 minutes, 39.69 seconds. That was a big improvement from her first-place time May 15 in the District 2 meet of 2:52.56.

West Virginia's contingent also includes:

Ricky Robinson, Mathias, W.Va., Boys age 11-12 standing long jump.

Megan Kite, Dorcas, W.Va., Girls age 9-10 softball throw.

Justice Smith, Washington, W.Va., Girls age 11-12 standing long jump.

Katelyn Byrd, Parkersburg, Girls age 13-14 softball throw.

Cabell Midland coach Chris Parsons, also the Hershey state meet administrator, and his wife, Kim, made the trip as chaperones.
