Huntington's Lochow wins silver medal

HUNTINGTON -- Haven Lochow, 11, of Huntington won the overall silver medal for her age group at the Jump Rope Junior Olympics in New Orleans.

Hallie Kaichi from the Jumping Coyotes (Calif.) took the female 11-year-old division gold medal followed by Lochow who competes for the SkipSations Jump Rope Team of Chapel Hill, N.C. Bronze went to Morgan Johnson of the Cary (N.C.) Super Skippers.

Lochow placed third in the power competition with 138 double jumps in one minute, was fourth in freestyle and was fifth in speed with 289 single jumps in one minute.

Combined scores from the three events gave her the silver medal.

She also earned 10th place in pairs speed with her partner, Sydney Melet of Chapel Hill.

Lochow was a member of the Geneva Kent Elementary School jump rope team and will enter Beverly Hills Middle School this year.

Her parents are Amy and Steve Lochow.
