Local girls place third in national tournament

HUNTINGTON -- West Virginia Thunder defeated SGV California, 46-30, for third place at the AAU 5th Grade Girls Basketball National Championships in Hampton, Va.

The Huntington-based team finished third out of 61 teams with a 7-1 record.

Members of the team are Mariah Finley, Layken Hale, and Dena Jarrells from Crum, W.Va.; Morgan Vaughn and Maddie Vaughn from Lavalette; Jimeisha Smith of Charleston; Natalee Hall from Chesapeake Ohio; Alexis Hall from Coal Grove Ohio; Erin Daniels from Minford, Ohio; and Rebekah Green from Jackson, Ohio.
