District 1 Little League 11-12 baseball action set
HUNTINGTON -- Friday's action in the District 1 11-12 Little League baseball tournament at Ona will have a definite Wayne County feel to it.
Ceredo-Kenova and Barboursville will meet for the District 1 championship at 5:30 p.m. at Ona before Wayne meets Lavalette in the consolation semifinals at 7:45 p.m.
Thursday's action at League 3 was all consolation contests with Wayne and Lavalette emerging victorious.
In the first game, Wayne trailed 5-3 early, but used a 10-run third inning to take a lead. Wayne then put the contest away by scoring six runs in the top of the sixth to earn a 21-11 win.
T.J. Perry got the win on the mound for Wayne.
Wayne quickly found out that it would play Lavalette in the consolation semifinals after Lavalette earned a 7-3 win over Mason County.
Lavalette did not have to field a single ball until the sixth inning as pitcher Brad Sharp was in control. The first 15 outs of the game were strikeouts from the arm of Sharp.
Lavalette scored twice in the second inning then put the game away with a three-run fourth to earn the victory.
