Area Little League tourneys ready for play

HUNTINGTON -- Pool play was scheduled to wrap up Wednesday for the West Virginia District 1 Little League Baseball 9-10 year-old all-star tournament.

Two teams with the best records from three pools will move into the double-elimination finals set to begin Thursday at Hite-Saunders with games at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Two teams, the district champion and runner-up, will advance to the State Tournament at Huntington League 3 that begins July 15.

Other District 1 age-group tournaments are also set to begin. Complete tournament schedules are posted on the District 1 website, www.eteamz.com/wvdistrict1.

Little League Baseball for 11-12 year-olds has 13 teams in four pools beginning play June 30. Two teams from each pool goes into a double-elimination playoff for two berths in the State Tournament that begins July 23 in Beckley.

Little League Softball in the 11-12 year-old division has eight teams in two pools getting started June 27. Two teams from each pool advance to the double-elimination finals, with two advancing from there. The State Tournament begins July 15 in Charleston.

Little League Softball for 9-10 year-olds has a lineup of 10 teams split into three pools to begin pool play June 23. Two teams from each pool will play in the double-elimination finals. The champion and runner-up go to the State Tournament that begins July 8 in Petersburg, W.Va.

Pool play in the Little League Baseball 10-11 age group begins June 28 for six teams in two groups. Two from each pool make the double-elimination round. Two teams will represent the district at the State Tournament beginning July 16 in Madison, W.Va.
