Jones' HR lifts HHS over Point Pleasant

HUNTINGTON - For Kyra Jones, winning was all in her head.

Jones, a freshman center fielder, smashed a walk-off two-run home run in the eighth inning Friday to give Huntington High (17-3) a come-from-behind 7-5 softball victory over Point Pleasant (17-7). Jones said the difference in her strikeout in the second inning and her homer was the way she used her head.

Fairland's Riley to play softball at Shawnee St.

ROME TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Intelligence, effort and talent combine to make a star softball player.

Mackenzie Riley embodies all of those adjectives. The Fairland High School softball star signed Friday to play at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio. The Bears swooped in at the last minute and stole her away from Xavier University and several smaller colleges.
