Here's a 2008 video explaining the high-flying new sport of dock diving. This video is from the DockDogs National Championship Series from that year. DockDogs Inc. has been seen since 2000 on ESPN's Great Outdoors Games. It hosts jumping competitions around the United States. Gaining popularity around the world, dog dock jumping was first introduced to the world during the Incredible Dog Challenge, a Purina event in 1997. There are now three different organizations hosting tournaments, and dogs in both the U.S. and the U.K. went over the 29-foot mark in 2011. The jump distance is measured, by most organizations, from the lateral midpoint of the end of the dock to the point at which the base of the dog's tail (where the tail meets the body) breaks the water's surface. Locally, there will be a Let's Try Dock Dogs event from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Ashland City Pool.
