The Judds to go on tour

February 09, 2010 @ 12:24 PM

Legendary country soul diva Wynonna Judd announced on “The Early Show,” Saturday edition that she will reunite with her mother, Naomi Judd, for a final “The Judds” tour.

No dates for the tour featuring the duo from the Ashland area have been announced yet. Representatives from one venue, the Big Sandy Superstore Arena in Huntington, said they looked at the show, but because of the costs and the current economy, are not pursuing the show at this time.

Wynonna, the five-time Grammy Award winning artist, made the announcement as part of CBS News’ broadcast leading up to Super Bowl XLIV from Lummus Park in South Beach, Fla.

Wynonna’s last area musical performance was a December 2007 date for her “Classic Christmas Tour.”

One of the most successful musical duos of all time, The Judds sold more than 20 million records in their career. As a solo artist, since 1992, Wynonna has sold more than 10 million CDs.

Their cross-generational appeal, powerful vocal interplay, and dedication to “family love and rural values”  helped them win the CMA Country Duo of the year honors in 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1991.

Five-time Grammy award winners, and one of the most successful musical pairings of all time were credited with “single-handedly saving country music,” according to Time magazine.  Their kitchen table harmonies and home-spun rapport was a breath of fresh air to a stagnant country music scene at the time.
