Marshall students recognized for research

HUNTINGTON — Three students and two medical residents received awards Tuesday for research projects they presented at the 21st Research Day of the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine.


The winners were:


Dr. Waseem Ostwani, a resident in pediatrics, for two projects on childhood constipation and treatment of respiratory distress syndrome in premature infants;


Dr. Jay Lakhani, a medicine-pediatrics resident, for a presentation involving a case of kidney atrophy in a child;


Tracy Hendershot, a medical student, for a clinical presentation on a rare “slit fracture” of the spine;


Jennifer Napper, a biomedical sciences graduate student, for a project involving acute myelogenous leukemia;


and Amy Nash, a biomedical sciences graduate student, for a project involving testicular cancer.


Winners received plaques and cash awards.
