Ads seek WVU grads as clients for lawsuit

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — Two Charleston lawyers are trying to drum up clients for a class-action lawsuit against West Virginia University, arguing degrees from the school are now less valuable.

The law firm run by Greg Chiartas and Bruce Freeman is running newspaper ads this weekend, while students are graduating in Morgantown.

Students, faculty, alumni and donors have been embarrassed and outraged by a master’s degree scandal involving Heather Bresch, the governor’s daughter and a friend of WVU President Mike Garrison.

Garrison has refused faculty demands that he resign.

Chiartas says he worries that WVU graduates might now be passed over for jobs because of the scandal.

He concedes damages could be difficult, but not impossible, to determine.
