Schools put to use
Many former schools in Cabell County have been given new life through government or other community organizations. Here are some examples:
Simms School: Senior apartments.
Huntington High School: Senior apartments, YMCA senior services, performing arts center for Arts Resources of the Tri-State (ARTS).
Huntington East High School: Cabell County Schools' central office, maintenance division and alternative school.
Cox Landing Junior High: Cabell County Public Libraries, Head Start.
Fetty School: Tri-State Fire Academy.
Greenbottom Elementary: Greenbottom Church.
Gallaher Elementary: The school was demolished, but the site is now home to emergency services, as the Mark E. King Memorial Station.
Merritts Creek Elementary: Bought by Free Will Baptist Church and is now a church camp.
Central School: Now a residential home.
Pleasantview School: Chestnut Grove Church's recreation center.
Harveytown School: Museum of Radio and Technology.
Balls Gap School: Now a residential home.
Johnston Elementary: Medical and assisted living facility.
Jefferson Elementary: Celebration Church.
Monroe Elementary: Head Start.
