Football fans head out for food, drink
HUNTINGTON -- The big game either brought families and friends together, or set them at odds for some friendly trash-talking Sunday as they watched the Indianapolis Colts take on the New Orleans Saints Sunday at the Marshall Hall of Fame Cafe.
They came out for the food, the beer, a corn hole tournament and prize drawings for a Wii and Rock Band II, among other gifts. But another big attraction of the night was simply the chance to cheer for their team -- either the "dynasty" team or the "destiny" team -- and to trade barbs with the fans wearing the wrong colors during Super Bowl XLIV.
Brothers David Lewis and Larry Fox faced off on Sunday. Lewis was for the Saints, Fox for the Colts.
"I'm not a Saints fan, but I want the Saints to win," Lewis said.
"Everyone is on this 'destiny' thing," Fox said, rolling his eyes.
"You all got the best quarterback, I'm not saying you don't have the best quarterback," his brother conceded. But he thought the Saints should win, and there was a screaming pair of fans to his left who were right with him.
Keith and Susan Huntington got to the Hall of Fame Cafe early Sunday and snagged the best table in the house -- an eight-seater with perfect view of the flatscreen. Plenty of room for their beer and nachos.
The mother-son team originally from New Orleans did not need all the chairs. But they were only willing to share their seats with other Saints fans.
"I've been waiting 43 years for this," Susan Huntington said before the coin toss.
A few tables down, Nicole Conley and her 9-year-old son, Cameron, were rocking their blue Colts jerseys -- No. 18 for Peyton Manning.
Nicole actually caught the Colts fever from her son.
"I like (Manning's) DirecTV and Donald Trump commercials," Nicole Conley said. "And he's a good role model for kids. And he plays well."
