Phelps to host SNL season premiere
NEW YORK (AP) — Michael Phelps is going to risk looking like a fish out of water — pipe in the laughter any time — when he makes his acting debut next month on “Saturday Night Live.”
The humble record-breaking Olympic swimmer, who so often was at a loss for words during his many post-race interviews, will join hip-hop star Lil Wayne in hosting the comedy show’s live season premier on Sept. 13.
The 23-year-old Phelps won an historic eight gold medals in Beijing, breaking Mark Spitz’s long-standing record, and set seven world records while becoming an overnight sports icon. He also became the most decorated Olympian with 14 career medals.
His affinity for rap music should allow him to fit in seamlessly with Lil Wayne, whose sixth album “Tha Carter III” has sold more than 1 million copies in its first of release.
