HUNTINGTON -- Marshall University wide receiver Tommy Shuler is small at only 5-foot-8 and 187 pounds.

However, his presence on the football field looms large.

That presence has caught the eyes of people on the national scene as Shuler was one of six Conference USA wide receivers selected Tuesday to the Biletnikoff Award watch list.

In all, 75 wide receivers were nominated to the preseason list.

Shuler's 2012 season was a record-breaker for a Marshall wide receiver. His 110 receptions were a school record, breaking the old mark set by Mike Barber in 1987. He also became the first-ever underclassmen and just the fifth C-USA wide receiver to break the 100-reception plateau.

His 110 catches accounted for 1,138 yards and six touchdowns.

Shuler's top statistical game came in a 51-41 loss to Purdue when he caught 19 passes for 200 yards.

He had five games of 100 yards receiving or more, including the Thundering Herd's final two games of the season.

Shuler had 14 catches for 141 yards and two touchdowns to break Barber's single-season record for receptions in a season during a 65-59 double-overtime loss to East Carolina to end the season. A week prior, he had nine catches for 105 yards and a score in a win over Houston.

The junior from Miami, Fla., also had 100-yard games against Ohio and Southern Miss.

Against the Ohio Bobcats, Shuler finished with 13 catches for 121 yards. He finished with 11 catches for 111 yards and two scores in a 59-24 win over Southern Miss.

In addition to Shuler, several other players from C-USA were on the list for the award.

Those players include East Carolina's Justin Hardy, Florida Atlantic's William Dukes, Tulane's Ryan Grant, Tulsa's Keyarris Garrett and UTEP's Jordan Leslie.

Other players on the list include Jordan Thompson from West Virginia, Corey Brown from Ohio State and Devin Smith from Ohio State.

The Biletnikoff Award will announce its semifinalists on Nov. 18 with the finalists being named on Nov. 25. The 2013 Biletnikoff Award will be presented live on Dec. 12 during the Home Depot College Football Awards Show, which will air on ESPN.
