Dance theater wraps up ballet

HUNTINGTON -- The Huntington Dance Theatre wrapped up its weekend of performances of its 31st annual production of "The Nutcracker."

Held at the Joan C. Edwards Playhouse on Marshall's campus, the production featured a cast of 75 dancers and performers ages 5 through 60 that brought to life the story of "The Nutcracker."

The event also included a gala reception of holiday sweets and refreshments before the Sunday afternoon show.

Although HDT's performances are over, you can still see several Nutcracker performances in the region.

"The Great Russian Nutcracker" performs at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the Paramount Arts Center in Ashland. Tickets start at $35. Later this week, the Charleston Ballet and the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra present the 10th Anniversary Performance of Tchaikovsky's Holiday Favorite: "The Nutcracker" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Clay Center in Charleston.

Cirque d'Art Theatre's Nutcracker will be performed at the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, and at 7 p.m. Monday-Tuesday, Dec. 17-18, in Portsmouth, Ohio.

The Huntington Dance Theatre production of "The Nutcracker" is performed on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center.
