Clay Center hosts Canstruction food drive for local pantry

CHARLESTON —  Visitors to the Clay Center are encouraged to bring a canned food item to help fill the shelves of a local food bank and receive $1 off* their Clay Center gallery admission through Sunday, Jan. 20.

This is in conjunction with Canstruction®, an innovative design competition that constructs sculptures using canned foods, will be on exhibit at the Clay Center. All food items collected, as with the canned food exhibited during Canstruction®, will be donated to Covenant House Food Pantry.

Kids can also participate in the Clay Center's CAN-do Art! Whizbang Workshop on Saturday.

The donated cans and other recyclable material will be used to create unique sculptures and artwork.

Workshop activities also will include a tour of the free Canstruction® exhibit that will be open to the public beginning at 11 a.m. on Wednesday through Sunday in the Clay Center Grand Lobby. 

Whizbang Workshops are a series of hands-on educational programs for children. For more information and to register, visit www.theclaycenter.org or call (304) 561-3529.  Cost for each workshop is $12 for Clay Center members and $15 for non-members.  Pre-registration is required. 

The Clay Center's Avampato Discovery Museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
