CHARLESTON - Backed by business interests and Republicans, Morgantown attorney Beth Walker has won a seat on the West Virginia Supreme Court.

The 51-year-old attorney for West Virginia University Medicine knocked out Justice Brent Benjamin, who won as a Republican in 2004 behind $3.5 million in outside spending by ex-Massey Energy CEO Don Blankenship. Many of the same business interests that pushed for Benjamin opposed him this year and supported Walker, who topped three other opponents to win the 12-year job.
