Last month, the former Pullman Plaza Hotel officially reopened as a DoubleTree by Hilton and introduced a new pub called Bootleggers.

The newly remodeled hotel has another new restaurant. Located in the former banquet room is a new Italian restaurant named Doppio Albero. The restaurant (whose name is Italian for "Double Tree") offers guests a variety of Italian favorites in the evenings as well as a breakfast buffet and a rotating lunch buffet on weekdays.

"We started renovating the restaurant area about a year ago. It was Rick Dinah, the regional director of operations of DoubleTree, who came up with the idea to put in an Italian restaurant," said Kevin Sears, a host at Doppio Albero. "He has family recipes that have been passed down. Everything in here has been completely redone - new carpeting, new tile, new light fixtures and new furniture. Part of the kitchen was redone as well. They started work construction and renovation here about a year ago. We reopened on the first of May."

Customers can customize their own pasta starting at $16 with choices such as spaghetti, mushroom ravioli and rainbow tortellini with their choice of sauces. For $6 more you can upgrade your meal with a choice of toppings such as meatballs, Italian sausage or veal. Other entrees include Eggplant Parmesan ($24) and Filet Mignon ($38), all of which are served with a salad and antipasto. There are also sandwiches such as the Pompeii Burger ($15) and meatballs on Italian bread ($9)

"We also have very good salads. The Blackened Chicken Caesar Salad is great! So is the Cobb Salad. We have large portions, and you can make a meal out of one," Sears said. "Our homemade meatballs are great, as well. Everyone who has had the pastas has enjoyed them."

The restaurant has a daily breakfast buffet that has scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes and changing daily special for $12. The breakfast menu also includes a variety of omelets such as the Jimmy Hoffa Omelet ($10), which has mozzarella cheese, spicy Italian sausage and marinara.

There is also a lunch buffet from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday through Fridays for $14. The lunch buffet varies each day including Taco Tuesdays and Fried Chicken Fridays.

"Tuesdays and Fridays are our only set days on the lunch buffet. We have chef's choice Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. It can be Italian, fajitas, turkey, pizza, ham or subs. We go out of our way to make it welcoming to our guests," said Kayla Bowen, food and beverage manager of DoubleTree.

Doppio Albero is located at the DoubleTree by Hilton at 1001 3rd Ave. Breakfast hours at Doppio Albero are 6 a.m. until 10 a.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. The lunch buffet is from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Dinner hours are from 5 p.m. until 11 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Cash and all major credit cards are accepted. For more information, call the DoubleTree by Hilton at 304-525-1001 or visit them at
