Courtesy of Paul Sebert G.D. Ritzy's has served the Huntington area for 36 years.

Established in Ohio in the 1980s, G.D. Ritzy's is a restaurant chain that experienced a dizzying high and an abrupt fall. At the peak of its popularity there were 95 Ritzy's locations east of the Mississippi. Over the years the number declined to six - spread out over Kentucky, Indiana and, of course, Huntington. However it looks like the "Luxury Grill" may be due for a comeback. Last August, a new Ritzy's opened its doors in Clintonville, Ohio, just outside of Columbus.

"We've been here in Huntington for 36 years. The founders of Ritzy's were all guys who left Wendy's. So the menu is not unlike what Wendy's once was. This one is different, though. It was built from the ground up. There was a gas station here that they tore down before we went up," said Sid Torlone, owner of Huntington's Ritzy's. "I've been here all 36 years. I worked for 10 years as a night manager, then as a day manager, then as a general manager before I bought the place."

One of the items that stands out at Ritzy's is its 1940s-style hamburger.

"We cook them to order. '40s style means that the way we press them, they're thicker in the middle and thinner on the end," Torlone said. "I like the double with extra cheese. We also have a Philly steak sandwich that I like. We cut our fries shoestring style, which people really like."

While Ritzy's is steeped in tradition, there are a few new menu items. These include a fried bologna sandwich called "The Big Bopper" ($1.59), a pork BBQ sandwich ($3.79) and a mushroom bacon swiss burger ($4.99). Traditional burgers range from a regular hamburger ($3.59) to a Triple Ritz ($5.99). The menu also includes a Philly steak sandwich ($5.99), a ham and cheese sub ($4.99) and a taco salad ($5.99). There's also a variety of Hershey's Ice Cream in flavors that include mint chocolate chunk, strawberry and praline.
