Whether you're looking for sushi, fried rice, or noodles, there's a new Japanese restaurant in Barboursville. The intimate restaurant, Xuan Fusion, offers both dine-in and carry out. The restaurant is coming up on its month anniversary, as it opened on June 15.

Owner Xuan Chen began working and remodeling the restaurant this past January.

"It took us about six months to open," Chen said. "There was a countertop company in this space before we came in. It was basically just a showroom. We had to totally remodel it. We also had to bring in all of the kitchen equipment. We moved to the area from New York about four years ago and now live in Ironton, Ohio. We saw this location and decided we wanted to put a business in here."

Xuan Fusion offers a wide variety of sushi including Nigiri Sushi (fish with rice), Sashimi (fish with no rice) and Maki Rolls (fish and rice wrapped in Nori). Customers can order a Maki Roll Combo starting at $11.99. This assorted array includes a California Roll, Salmon Roll and a Spicy Tuna Roll, and is an affordable way to share three popular rolls.

Fusion doesn't stop with these palate-pleasing favorites. They also create their own specialty rolls such as the deep fried "Godzilla Roll" priced at $9.99. This specialty dish is made with spicy salmon, white fish, jalapeno peppers, scallions and masago (otherwise known as "roe" or eggs of a small fish). Topping off the "Godzilla Roll" is Xuan's special sauce. Vegetarians can enjoy a truly unique fusion of vegetable rolls like their Avocado Roll priced at $2.99 or a Mango Cucumber Roll selling for under $4.

"I recommend our Clearwater Beach Roll, which has shrimp tempura, avocado and masago. It's topped with spicy crab, crunchy tempura flakes and homemade mango citrus sauce," Chen said. "We have soup and salads. We have a small number of sandwiches, wraps and vegetarian options. We serve both fried rice and pasta. We also have a teriyaki chicken, which is a traditional Japanese dish."

If you're looking for an alternative to sushi, there's Miso Tofu Soup priced at $4, chicken fried rice and a layer fish tempura sandwich listed for under $7. You can also enjoy Teriyaki Chicken, which starts at $8.50 for their lunch portion and is available in a larger dinner size option. A popular item which is also featured on both Xuan's lunch and dinner menu is their Black Bean Salmon entree.

One unique way to wash down your meal at Xuan Fusion is with a traditional Japanese soft drink, Ramune. The beverage comes available in several flavors for $2.50.
