HUNTINGTON — If you’re looking for an alternative to fast food in the Marshall University Memorial Student Center, look no further than the Huntington Market.
A long-time staple of the food court, the Huntington Market moved to its new home in the former spot of Pizza Hut Express at the start of the fall semester. Each weekday, the restaurant serves up a different special such as barbecue ribs, chicken & dumplings and meatloaf.
“We call The Huntington Market our comfort food spot,” said Ryan Zipperian, a marketing specialist for Marshall Dining Services. “The Huntington Market was always a popular eatery in the past. When we did the remodel, we lost the Pizza Hut because we had La Famiglia coming in with locally owned homemade pizzas. The question became what to do with that space. So, the decision was made to put the Market there because a lot of faculty enjoy The Market, and a lot of commuters really enjoy it here for certain specials, whether that’s chicken & dumplings, meatloaf, etc. Our soups are also served out of there.”
The restaurant features a lot of roasted meats and Southern comfort food.
“Chicken & Dumplings on Wednesday is our most popular day,” Zipperian said. “People want to try that comfort food and have it available. We want stuff you can’t get at a Chick-fil-A or at Steak’n’Shake. We try to make as many options available. We have vegetarian options available, like vegetarian shepherd’s pies and stuffed peppers. We’ve had pork loins, flank steak, and several types of chicken ranging from fried chicken to a Cuban style chicken. We are all from this area, and we know what comfort food consists of, and that’s what we try to aim for. Taco Tuesday is very popular on campus — we decided to go with that every week due to feedback.”
