Pizza lovers know there are many variations of pizza, ranging from New York pizza to Chicago's deep dish. But what is a Mountain Pie? The Mountain Pie Company is a small bar and pizzeria that specializes in small pies stuffed with big flavor. The pub boasts a selection of regional West Virginia craft beers including drafts from the Morgantown Brewing Co., Greenbrier Valley Brewing Co. and Bridge Brew Works.

"We've been here in Hurricane for about four years. We started in the location where Island Teriyaki is now before moving over here two years ago. We moved to this space because it was bigger. This was the home of Serendipity Cupcakes before they moved over by the bank. We added an enclosed patio area for outdoor dining," said John Beech, owner of Mountain Pie Company "We built a bar area and added a wall ourselves. We also had to do a lot of decorating and painting. The ceiling is all pallets that we cut ourselves."

All pies are personal sized and served on naan bread. They range in price from $9-$12.

"I put the menu together by experimenting and trying things out at other places. We have some upscale toppings like goat cheese and ghost pepper cheese. Our best-selling pie is The Corleone, which has Italian sausage, pepperoni, salami, ham and banana peppers. We also have The Freaky Greek with feta cheese, roma tomatoes, spinach, roasted red peppers, Kalamata olives, red onions and a balsamic glaze." Beech explained. "Another one we sell a few of is the Pompeii, which has spicy sausage, spicy shrimp and ghost pepper cheese."

The restaurant has freshly made salads such as My Big Fat Greek Salad, priced at $8. This big, fat salad consists of romaine lettuce, feta cheese, red onions, tomatoes, banana peppers and two types of olives plus a house-made Greek dressing. You can alsoenjoy the Cajun chicken pasta for $12, lobster ravioli priced at $16 or lasagna for $10.

"We do some specials. I don't know if it's because of our reputation but whenever we have a steak special, we sell out. I guess that our reputation has gotten to the point where people trust us so much they'll order steak from a pizza joint," Beech said. "We also have an outdoor dining area featuring live music on Saturday nights. Our bar only has draft beers from West Virginia. Our best seller is the Devil Anse IPA from the Greenbrier Valley Brewing Co. Probably our next best seller is the Long Point Lager from Bridge Brew Works. We also make our own sangria, which is very popular. We are also open for lunch on Sunday. We have a mimosa special for that day."
