ASHLAND — Located inside of a Shell Station is a small restaurant serving up specials have food fit for a king. The King's Diner offers a surprisingly large menu for dine-in or carry-out. Since 2010, King's has served up an eclectic mix of American comfort food, Indian cuisine and desserts. It also specializes in breakfast, opening up at 5 a.m.

"I was born in India but raised in the Caribbean on Antigua and Barbuda and came to America in 2006. I went to community college in New York while staying with my uncle. Then, I decided to go to Marshall University. My dad and I were interested in doing our own business and we found this station with a diner here in Ashland." said Taj Sardar, owner and general manager.

Customers can start off their day with the "Big Breakfast," a hearty dish that comes with two eggs, fried potatoes, a biscuit and gravy, and a choice of sausage or bacon for $5.49. Breakfast sandwiches, such as a sausage and egg biscuit or BLT biscuit, are available for under $3.

"We open very early at in the morning. We start serving breakfast at 5 a.m. because we have people who work at Marathon and other businesses. I like eating different kinds of food all the time. When I go somewhere and I try something, I try to do something with it here. I hired a cook by the name of Tammie Grant who is phenomenal," Sardar said.

Every day there is a different lunch special, such as country fried steak, meatloaf, chicken and dumplings or catfish. Most specials are priced around $6 and include two sides and a roll. There are also daily specials featuring Indian food, which include butter chicken, curried pork and chicken Tikka Masala. Diners can enjoy them in a platter served with rice, a side, and naan bread for $6.49. The lunch menu also includes a hamburger for $3.29, a Philly steak and gyros starting at $3.99. There is also a small daily rotating assortment of desserts such as chocolate fudge cake or strawberry delight for $2.89.

The King's Diner is located at 2002 Greenup Ave. It is open from 5 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and until 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
