First opened in 2006, Z-Brick Oven was a small pizzeria popular with students and the late-night crowd. In 2017 it moved to a new home and reopened under a new name, The Brick & Brew - but this new incarnation would be struck by disaster, burning down nearly a month after reopening.

After a two-year absence, Z-Brick Oven has returned to Huntington with a brand-new location. The new store is co-owned by Joshua Pineda and Chase Robertson.

"Chase and I bought the name from the original owner, Zane Carter. He was originally going to be part of this new location but left. I already owned the building and it used to be a nightclub called Club Deception. We started remodeling it in January," Pineda explained. "We had already been working on the place when I bought the trade name from Carter. He was originally going to run the restaurant but canceled. So we worked out an agreement and I bought the business from him. We did everything we needed to do legally and set about opening for business. Our first day was March 26. Currently, we are focused on carry out and delivery. We have a few tables in our waiting area, but we're hoping to open the dining area up later this year."

The new restaurant offers a variety of pizzas, calzones, salads, pasta and submarine sandwiches. Pizzas start at $8.99 for a 12-inch cheese pizza to $14.99 for a 18-inch pizza. There are also specialty pizzas such as the taco pizza topped with seasoned beef, red onion, black olives, tomatoes, jalapeno peppers, and a blend of mozzarella and cheddar cheeses. Another option is the "White Pie," which is brushed with extra virgin olive oil and topped with ricotta and mozzarella cheese, garlic, oregano and basil plus a topping of your choice. There's also a chicken and mushroom alfredo pizza. Specialty pizzas range from $13.99 to $21.99 depending on size.

"What makes our pizza different is that it's actually cooked in a brick oven. Most pizza companies these days use a convection oven, which is faster. However, a brick oven actually cooks the ingredients into the pizza. I think it makes a difference," Pineda said. "My favorite would probably be the taco pizza. We also have lots of appetizers from pepperoni rolls to fried mozzarella cheese sticks to cheddar bacon cheese fries to choose from."

"We deliver everywhere between 31st Street and 14th Street West. We do a lot of deliveries to St. Mary's and Cabell Huntington Hospital. There is a $10 minimum delivery. We have a special where you can get $5 off with your first online order. We also have a Margherita calzone with sauce, tomato, basil, mozzarella cheese."
