HUNTINGTON -- Located in the former home of Ward's Donut Shop, Rocco's Little Italy is a cozy little diner that's known for having some of the best sandwiches in town and being a favorite spot for late night meals on weekends.

The restaurant is owned by Jung Kim. Her husband, Joon Kim, is constantly on site working in the kitchen. Rocco Muriale opened the restaurant in 2000 before turning the business over to the Kim family in 2003. The restaurant continues to be closely affiliated with the Ceredo-based Rocco's, serving Rocco's lasagna and spaghetti.

Perhaps the diner is most famous for its variety of hoagies served on bread from Brunetti's Bakery in Kenova.

"We have some sandwiches that we have here that you can't get anywhere else," Joon Kim said. "The Underboss is made with a homemade Italian sausage that we spice ourselves. It's my favorite sandwich. We also have the Marco Polo, which is grilled chicken. We have a homemade oriental sauce that we marinade it in. Our most popular sandwiches are The Underboss, the Marco Polo and the The Boss, which is our steak sandwich."

Other the sandwiches include Sleep with the Fishes, made with beer battered haddock, and the Wise Guy, which features pork barbecue, American cheese and slaw.

"We have a special grilled chicken salad which we make with the same marinade as our Marco Polo sandwich, so you can't get it anywhere else," Joon Kim said. "Our chili and minestrone soup are homemade. The pasta sauce is made special for us at Rocco's. The spaghetti and rigatoni are homemade. The lasagna is made for us special at Rocco's restaurant in the morning for us. We also sell their meat sauce and marinara sauce."

Going as late as 4 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, Rocco's Little Italy has been a favorite spot for late night eats in downtown Huntington. On these evenings, Kim offers a special omelet sandwich that can be made with sausage, steak or pepperoni.
