IRVING, Texas — Marshall University redshirt junior pitcher Wade Martin was one of 12 student-athletes to receive 2019 Jim Castaeda Postgraduate Scholarship as announced by Conference USA on Monday.

The 11th annual award is named in honor of Dr. Jim Castaeda, who served Rice for 46 years as an educator, coach and faculty athletics representative before he passed away in 2008. Every season, C-USA grants the $4,000 scholarship to distinguished graduates selected by the league's Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the Board of Directors.

Martin, a former all-state pitcher at Wheelersburg High School, returned from Tommy John surgery during the 2019 campaign, making 10 starts and striking out 14 batters in 24 innings pitched. After compiling a 3.91 GPA in management/healthcare management, he was accepted into the healthcare administration master's program at Marshall.
